DoE awardees told ‘you can fly, you can soar’

Duke of Edinburgh bronze and silver awardees from Berkeley Institute: Melissa Botelho, Staesha Pitcher, Ashley Botelho, Arron Lindsay, Chinyere Nwasike, Jahkai Smith, Eli Smith, and Candice Albouy.

Young recipients of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards have been told that “despite the circumstances, despite things that might seem to be against you, and against all odds — you are leaders”.Bronze and silver awardees for the Berkeley Institute were addressed by Awards Council Chairman Kenneth Bartram as they collected the first Duke of Edinburgh International Awards, ahead of Tuesday’s ceremony at Government House for the Island’s Gold award recipients.“You can fly, you can soar — you do not have to stay on the ground,” Mr Bartram told them.Bronzes went to Ashley Botelho, Melissa Botelho, Arron Lindsay, Chinyere Nwasike, Staesha Pitcher, Jordan Saunders and Jahkai Smith; Dominic Lambe, Eliz Smith and Candice Albuoy took Silver Awards.Reflecting transitions in the Awards Scheme, the 2013 certificates are officially known as the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.Both levels chose to take expeditions around the East End.
