Butcher trainees land jobs

All four trainees sent abroad for certification to become qualified butchers have been placed in jobs at local grocery stores.Home Affairs Minister Michael Fahy updated Senators on the Butcher Training Programme in the Upper House yesterday.He congratulated Maki Pitt, Damiko Trott, Vaughan Archibald and Tomeeka Talbot for attaining internationally recognised certification at MEAT Ipswich, in the UK.Phase two requires the newly certified individuals to enter the workforce as trainees to gain practical experience.Mr Pitt has been employed by Lindo’s Market, Mr Trott has joined The MarketPlace, Mr Archibald has joined The Supermart Ltd and Ms Talbot has joined Miles Market.Sen Fahy noted that MEAT Ipswich is a butchery school “that has been delivering high quality training in the fresh food and meat industry for more than 25 years”.The initiative was launched following a review of the 2012 Bermuda Job Market Employment Briefs that listed the Butcher category as an occupation showing shortages of Bermudians.The UK training facility agreed to alter its curriculum to accommodate Bermuda’s training needs with a three-month intensive training programme.“I take this opportunity to congratulate all four successful aspiring butcher professionals on a job well done,” said Sen Fahy.“This Government remains committed to developing local talent and partnering with industry to ensure that our people are employed.“The Government continues to be committed to improving the livelihood of our people by providing accredited and internationally recognised training opportunities for those that are serious and interested in empowering themselves to develop new skills’ he added.“We believe this to be an essential component of our national training plan.”
