A police firearms officer responding to an emergency call was injured after his motorcycle crashed on the Crow Lane roundabout.

Traffic was diverted from the scene following the single vehicle collision at about 2.20pm. The officer had been responding to “high priority incident” in Southampton at the time, a police spokesman said.

The injured officer’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

“He was coming up from Corkscrew Hill, he sped up, and the bike slid from under him and cracked up against the side,” an eyewitness told The Royal Gazette. The officer appeared to have struck the curb near the turn onto Trimingham Road.

Police thanked members of the public who tended to the injured man at the scene.

Traffic out of Hamilton was diverted from East Broadway to Middle Road, as was incoming traffic on Point Finger Road, while traffic continued coming into the city.

Police have asked for witnesses to call 295-0011.
