Beach hit with fresh wave of sewage

Disgusting: One of the greaseballs washed up on Grape Bay beach last night.

Residents have raised the alarm once again to the presence of sewage washing up on Grape Bay beach in Paget.

The ‘greaseballs’ — restaurant grease mixed with sewage — were spotted last night by one resident who said he saw “hundreds of them up and down the beach”.

“It is so disgusting that this keeps going on unabated,” said the resident, who asked not to be named.

This afternoon, a Government spokeswoman confirmed the presence of the sewage balls on Grape Bay, but said no sewage balls had been found elsewhere.

“This morning a Department of Parks team was alerted to the presence of greaseballs on Grape Bay and immediately investigated several south shore beaches and removed the grease balls from Grape Bay,” said the spokeswoman.

The public are again encouraged to contact the Department of Parks office should they see any greaseballs.

Residents can contact the department at 236-5902 from 8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday, or at 599-5902 on Saturday and Sunday. The spokeswoman added that Parks crews will check south shore beaches again tomorrow.
