Homes damaged by fire

Firefighters tackled a pair of house fires this weekend, which caused considerable damage but no injuries.

At around 8.45pm yesterday the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded to a report of a fire in a home on Bulkhead Drive, Warwick.

According to Sergeant Russann Francis, a total of seven vehicles and 11 firefighters attended the two-story building, finding the upper level in flames.

Station commander on duty, Lieutenant Mark Taylor, said: “Upon the arrival of the fire service, there was smoke and flames seen on the upper level during our approach. Four firefighters dressed in breathing apparatus and equipped with a one and a half inch hose line began to extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters confirmed that all persons were out of the home prior to entering the premises to extinguish the flames.”

The dwelling reportedly sustained structural damage and extensive smoke damage throughout, and as of this morning the fire is still currently under investigation.

The service also responded to a separate incident just before 11am at a home in Smith’s parish, where smoke had been seen coming out of an “exterior structure”.

Two firefighters dressed in breathing apparatus and equipped with a one and a half inch hose line began to extinguish the fire. Belco was also called to assist by removing the power from the premises.

There was a considerable amount of damage to the structure.
