Heavy delays in traffic out of Hamilton

First Prev 1 2 Next Last

Motorists are being advised of major traffic tailbacks from Paget Lights to Point Finger Road and down the hill past Crow Lane roundabout.

Congestion was still being felt at 8pm.

Police had earlier warned motorists to expect traffic congestion at the junction of Middle Road and South Road in Paget, as the Paget traffic lights were out of order following Tropical Storm Fay.

A Bermuda Police Service spokesman had said there were still “significant delays” yesterday for those travelling on the Island’s roads, particularly those coming from the west end.

He added: “Police officers are on hand at that location to ensure traffic flows as smoothly and safely as possible. At this time it is recommended that motorists travelling from the west end use South Road if possible.

“A section of Harbour Road from The Lane to Manse Road, Paget is still impassable and we encourage commuters to avoid that area until further notice.

“In addition, all motorists should follow any instructions from police officers monitoring traffic flow and take note of any traffic diversions due to plant debris or other obstructions in the road.”

Traffic out of Hamilton was backed up this morning because of a number of road closures as the post-storm clear-up continued.

Harbour Road was closed off to outgoing traffic from Crow Lane and a section of South Road, Paget was blocked this morning from Point Finger Road to the Trimingham Hill roundabout.
