Man admits swearing at police officer

A St George’s man was released from custody this morning after he pleaded guilty in Magistrates’ Court to swearing at a police officer.

Everest Trott, 36, admitted that he used offensive words in a public place in St George’s on October 11.

Prosecutor Susan Mulligan told the court that the off-duty police officer approached Trott after he noticed him conversing with the driver of a stationary vehicle in the middle of the street.

She said that Trott started using offensive words and was warned about his behaviour by uniformed police officers.

She added that when the off-duty officer approached Trott again he said: “I don’t give a f*** who you are. Get the f*** outta my face.”

He continued to use words of a more obscene nature.

Trott was subsequently apprehended and taken to Hamilton Police Station where he was arrested.

When asked by Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo if he had indeed called someone a mother******, Trott replied that he had done so when he was being arrested.

He said that he told the police officer: “Just because you’re white you don’t need to treat me like a n*****”.

Trott had been in police custody since December 24.

He was also told to pay one of his outstanding fines today, or face 100 in prison in default of payment.

He was given to January 30 to pay another fine.
