Show your Cup Match colours for charity

Cup Match spirit: Family Centre's Latoya Bridgewater, senior community social worker, and Riccal Thompson, clinical case manager (Photograph supplied)

Cup Match is coming — and the Family Centre’s fundraising campaign with the title sponsor, Clarien Bank, is once again offering commemorative ribbons for a worthy cause.

The traditional ribbons in St George’s and Somerset colours are available all through this month at establishments across the community, a statement from the centre announced.

Ribbons will also be up for purchase on August 1, at Clarien Bank’s Reid Street and Paget Plaza branches, with music, Gombeys, a selfie photo booth, free Ashley’s Lemonade, candy and popcorn.

The Family Centre has used July to raise funds to support Bermuda’s families for more than 20 years, and 2018 marks Clarien Bank’s 17th year supporting the charity tag day.

Clarien staff will also raise money internally to be donated directly to the centre, according to Michael DeCouto, the bank’s chief digital and marketing officer.

Cup Match ribbons are being sold in advance to companies, groups and individuals by pre-order.

Both team colours are available by calling the Family Centre, or by e-mailing the charity at roberta@tfc.bm.

Many businesses are also holding denim days to support the charity as part of their in-house festivities.

Martha Dismont, the executive director of the Family Centre, said its tag day would also be held on August 1.

She added: “We recognise the importance of honouring Bermuda’s heritage events, and we are so grateful to the public for supporting our tag day on this important cultural holiday, while getting into the Cup Match spirit.”

Ms Dismont thanked Clarien Bank for its sponsorship, as well as the tag day volunteers.

“Please remember that even though there will be some ribbons available at gas stations, and business locations, on the day, we will primarily be offering Cup Match stickers at tagging stations, in red and blue and blue and blue.

“We look forward to celebrating the holiday with everyone, and we hope that the community continues to support this important fundraiser as we continue to help families in need.”

The Family Centre is still seeking volunteers to help out with an hour of their time to get into the spirit of Cup Match.
