Car park closure

The City of Hamilton reminds the public that No. 1 Car Park will be temporarily closed starting tomorrow, May 9th through May 24th in order to facilitate the carrier ship off-loading, storage and transportation of BELCO engines and transformers. The Public are reminded that short-term parking can always be found at City Hall as well as PLV Car Parks.

Due to the weight of the incoming BELCO equipment, Canal Road has been temporarily closed while reinforcements are being made, from below, to the overpass at the junction of Cedar Avenue and Marsh Folly Road. This work will not affect the roadway above other than the closure of Canal Road at Palmetto Road. Detour signage has been placed on Palmetto Road and motorists are urged to avoid the area and take alternate routes into Hamilton from the east to avoid inconvenience.

The Ministry of Public Works has issued a traffic notice regarding the closure and works to be carried out and all traffic controls will be under the direction of BELCO representatives. Any queries about the closure or work being carried out can contact Mr. Joe Vieira from BEST/Bermuda Forwarders at 294-6202 or Mr. Jesper Toft Levy from BWSC at 705-0632.

Press releases, traffic notices, radio announcements, signage and sponsored ads on social media have all been issued by BELCO, the Ministry of Public Works and the City regarding the relevant closures. The City apologizes for any inconvenience caused due to the closure of the Car Park, Canal Road and transport of the equipment.

The City of Hamilton advises the public that there will be no parking allowed at Albuoy’s Point or anywhere along Point Pleasant Road (entrance to Albuoy’s Point) due to major construction that started this week at No. 6 Front Street, former home of the headquarters of the Bank of Bermuda. There will still be access via a single lane of traffic around the building but there will be no parking of cars/mini buses/taxis permitted. Access to the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club and its parking bays will not be affected.

The recent traffic notice states that the traffic disruption will last until approximately October 2020 but this is subject to change.

Pedestrian access to tour boats in the area will still be permitted and the bike parking in the area will remain. The pedestrian access on the Front Street facing side of the building will be redirected to the north side of Front Street.
