A group of Bermuda Scouts has travelled to the United States to take part in the organisation’s World Jamboree.

Eight Scouts, one Ranger Scout and a troop leader from the Bermuda Scouting Association joined 45,000 Scouts and 12,000 troop leaders from around the world at the West Virginia event.

The group is also visiting several cities in the US, including New York, Washington and Baltimore.

Geoffrey Rothwell, the chief commissioner of Scouts in Bermuda, said: “The World Jamboree offers an incredible opportunity for our Scouts to interact with people from across the globe.”

He added: “The jamboree is a life-changing experience where lifelong friendships and memories are made.”

“If our world leaders could get along as well as our Scouts, the world would truly be a better place.”

The jamboree, which started on July 20, and included a camping trip to Ontario in Canada will end today.

The Bermuda group makes up one of six countries in Unit 100, alongside scouts from Gibraltar, Antigua & Barbuda, Anguilla, and St Kitts & Nevis.

The Bermuda Scouting Association made a cash donation to help the Anguilla contingent attend the jamboree.

Anguilla is still suffering the economic after-effects of Hurricane Irma, which devastated the country in 2017.
