Clay rings in 1,000

Southampton in the Knockout Cup semifinals, but he reached his goal the following day against last-placed Warwick as St. George's completed a rare perfect league season.

The 22-year-old became the season's first 1,000-run man and also tops this week's Fab Five followed by Hasan Durham of Western Stars, Kameron Fox of St.

David's, Dexter Smith of St. George's and Donald Norford of Devonshire Rec.

Clay Smith: Needed 42 going into the weekend to reach 1,000-run plateau and it appeared a fait accompli . But the margin of Saturday's victory over Rangers was not anticipated so he was the only player who retained his regular spot in the batting order, three, in a reshuffled line-up against Warwick. He began to press as he neared the target and that resulted in one of his least accomplished innings this season. Finished with 61 and, for good measure, took five for 32 in eight overs of off-spin.

Hasan Durham: Saved Western Stars from sure defeat at home to Cleveland during a 90-run seventh-wicket stand with Anthony Manders. Was unbeaten on 53 when the innings ended but contrived to give most of that back during four over of orthodox leg-spin that yielded 30. Had the last say with a perfect throw from deep mid-wicket to Gary Brangman at bowler's end that ran out Cleveland's top scorer Grant Smith.

Kameron Fox: Injury-hit St. David's may have a spinner to look to in the future in Sunday's performance by the youngster is anything to go by. Fox took six for 42 from 10 overs of left-arm spin to help the islanders defeat PHC.

Dexter Smith: Ended a mini-slump with 60 not out against Southampton Rangers in Saturday's knockout win then followed the next day with unbeaten 35 against Warwick coming in at number six.

Donald Norford: Season has been disrupted by work demands but in recent weeks has started produce for Devonshire Rec. at opening bat spot. Scored 27 in knockout win over St. David's and then made 68 not out as Rec. beat Flatts by nine wickets.
