Cullinan axed after summer trip to Bermuda
after returning home from a two-month coaching stint in Bermuda.
Batting prospect Boeta Dippenaar will replace the experienced Cullinan in the squad announced yesterday for a quadrangular limited-overs tournament in Kenya this month.
Dippenaar joined a party of 14 for matches against India, Zimbabwe and the hosts in Nairobi from September 25.
New selector Rushdi Magiet insisted that Cullinan, veteran of 48 Tests and 122 one-day internationals, had not been dropped.
"We've merely decided to get a younger player in, because tournaments of this nature are ideal for blooding new talent,'' Magiet said.
The 32-year-old Cullinan is the top run-scorer in South African Test history and has also made 3,630 runs in one-day internationals at an average of 34.57.
He saw his work on the Island as a first step into serious coaching.
Before leaving Bermuda, the former Derbyshire player said prophetically: "There will be a couple of good youngsters snapping at my heels so my work's going to be pretty much cut out for me.''
