Division decision hits snag
executive failed to resolve the matter of how many teams will compete in the First Division during the upcoming soccer season.
"We're at an impasse and are seeking, through outside advisors, how to reach a decision,'' said BFA administrative assistant David Sabir yesterday. "There are a few clauses in the constitution that we're addressing and seeking legal advice on.
"We want to set a good precedent in case a similar thing happens in the future...what we don't want is to make any kind of brash decisions.'' Certain conflicts have arose regarding whether the executive have the right to arbitrarily add a team to the division, or if they are bound by the constitution to do so.
While one aspect of the BFA's guidelines appears to favour the addition, another would seems to prevent it, saying in effect that only two teams could be promoted and two relegated.
Meanwhile, president Charlie Marshall termed the situation as being a "minor hiccup in the interpretation of the laws.
"There has to be 10 teams, but who they will be is a mystery at this point.'' Initially it had been decided to play the season using just nine sides, but a petition signed by several affiliates requesting a return 10 has caused a change in thinking.
