West Ham United manager Harry Redknapp and his assistant Frank Lampard will be in charge during the XL Capital Weekend Soccer Workshop, which starts today at Berkley Institute field.

Organiser Alan Pailing said last year's corresponding event attracted 70 children and this year he was hoping for more.

This will be Lampard's fifth coaching trip to Bermuda and Redknapp's third and Pailing said the two former West Ham players, who flew in last night, were popular with the youngsters.

"The kids have a lot of respect for them because most of them know who West Ham are and how well they've done this year and so they know that these two are soccer celebrities,'' said Pailing.

"All the kids know Harry's son Jamie Redknapp, who plays for England, and most of them know Frank Lampard jnr., who plays for West Ham, and that helps.'' Children taking part must be aged between eight and 15 and the first session starts today at 4.00 p.m.

Pailing said Lampard would probably take the younger children and Redknapp the older ones in a series of coaching sessions which would be "pretty hard work'' for the youngsters.

The second session will run from 8.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m. tomorrow and the third and final one, from 1.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. on Sunday.

The young players will be divided up into teams and play a round-robin tournament in the last session.

And then, depending on the number of children involved and the time remaining, Lampard and Redknapp will try to give a personal assessment to each child.

Children wishing to take part can be registered at the Pro Shop or on the day at Berkley Institute, for a $50 fee. All should wear soccer boots and shin pads.

BOWLERS IN THE MONEY BOW Bowlers in the money Bowlers will get the opportunity to play for prizes totalling $10,000 over the next eight weeks, after the annual American Airlines Bowling Spectacular started on Tuesday.

The competition, now in its 21st year and held at Warwick Lanes, offers cash prizes weekly and round-trip air tickets to a choice of American cities to finalists.

By popular demand, the rules have been changed this year, allowing all bowlers to enter the handicap division.

Under the old rules, only bowlers with an average of 175 or lower were allowed to play with a handicap, but now everyone is entitled to a handicap allowance, based on 90 percent of a 210 average.

Top bowlers, such as Dean Lightbourn and Commonwealth Games silver medallist Antoine Jones, who have an average above 210, will still be bowling on a scratch basis.

Lightbourn was in the money on the competition's opening night, capturing two prizes for high games in the scratch division (228 and 245) and his 663 earned him the high series prize. And Jones' 223 in the second game also earned him a prize.

In the handicap division, top prize winners were Cathee Tunbridge, who rolled a 697 series, Winston Lottimore 667, and Lightbourn, who took third place with 663. Fourth prize went to newcomer Melanie Burrows (659).
