has forced Desmond Haynes to pull out of this month's Bermuda charity testimonial match.

Haynes will be best man for his former team-mate and as such has had to cancel his Bermuda plans.

According to St. Clair (Brinky) Tucker, spokesman for the Testimonial Committee, Marshall remains quite ill following an operation in England this summer for colon cancer and the wedding has been rescheduled for an earlier date.

"He (Haynes) was good to apologise and now we have to look for a replacement.

We don't have anybody in mind right now but with the West Indies players busy over the next few months it's possible that we may have to seek an English player,'' said Tucker.

"We can assure the public that every effort will be made in trying to keep up with our tradition of bringing in a recognised international player for this event of which we are proud.'' Any hope of getting a current Test player from the West Indies has been ruled out because their top players are already in Singapore and will travel to Canada when they leave there. Afterwards they are scheduled to travel to Bangladesh.

With England having announced their squad to tour South Africa, Tucker and his committee can now see what available talent remains in the pool of players who may be able to replace Haynes. And much also depends on when any English players will be free from duty with their county teams.

To date there has only been one English Test player brought in for the annual event -- Dominican-born fast bowler Phil DeFreitas.
