Nusum quits Zebras
Division PHC.
Nusum replaced Jack Castle at the start of the season but it was the latter who was in charge of the Zebras during Tuesday night's 4-3 First Division loss to Vasco at Somerset.
"Yes, I am no longer playing a role at PHC,'' confirmed Nusum yesterday. "It didn't seem as though I was the one to motivate the players in order to get them to that next level.'' Nusum, who had given up his post as chairman of the Bermuda Football Association's coaching committee in order to take the PHC job, said he believed there had been some accomplishments at the club during his brief stay, despite the fact that the senior team had won just one and lost three of their four league matches this season.
"I did see some individuals pick up their games, and they bonded a bit as a team,'' said Nusum.
"But I just wasn't getting the response that I needed and was looking for from the team overall, and perhaps the players felt that way about me.'' Nusum said he hadn't thought about any future role he would play in soccer as far as coaching was concerned, and that included the possibility of returning to join Clyde Best's national coaching staff.
"I haven't thought about it at all,'' he said.
Nusum went to PHC at a crucial time after a number of the club's top players had transferred to new teams, leaving the Zebras with precious few experienced players when the season got underway.
Nusum knew he faced an uphill battle, admitting at the time: "With all those players leaving we have lost a lot of experience and also some young guys we were hoping would grow with the club and bring about a dynasty.
"But that's what coaching is all about, trying to take what you've got and moulding something out of it. It's going to be hard work, a big challenge, and a real test of my coaching ability.''
