of what he sees as unfair practices when it comes to appointments and promotions.

In a letter to the Bermuda Football Association last week -- a copy of which was sent to The Royal Gazette -- Knight was critical of the way he has been treated by the Bermuda Football Association.

Knight is particularly upset at the handling of appointments and promotions during last season and also during the last week's International Youth Tournament, when he was overlooked as a referee while Gary Cook was given two games.

"He has foreign guys and he seems to push these guys instead of locals,'' Knight said of BFA Director Gregory Grimes, who was also chairman of the referees during the tournament.

He said Grimes' attitude was "take it or leave it'' when he voiced his concerns to him.

"I really don't want to quit, because there are a shortage of referees, but I've just come to the conclusion that I'm getting no thanks for my dedication,'' said Knight.

In a letter confirming his decision to quit, Knight said: "It is with great regret that I can no longer turn the cheek and therefore I am unable to continue as a referee. I trust this trend which has influenced my decision will not continue so that those who may decide to continue will not be discouraged.'' Knight, who has been a Class Two referee since 1993, says he is looking into the possibility of coaching this season at the senior level, either as a head coach or an assistant.

He has his `C' licence and is planning to go to Florida in January for the `B' licence from the United States Soccer Coaches Association.

Gimes declined to comment on Knight's letter when contacted.
