Renegades blasted Teachers off the top of the BRFU First Division at Nationals on Sunday.

Constant early pressure resulted in a Steve Given try and although fly half Phil Heaney missed the conversion, he kicked two penalties in quick succession. Given then added a second try and Heaney kicked the conversion and added another penalty.

Teachers got on the board for the first, and only, time of the day with a Ross Webber penalty kick. But any thoughts of a comeback were nullified when Shandy Purewal went over after a strong Rod Stewart run. Captain Mike Gorrie then added a try after Neville Ross put him in scoring position.

Heaney converted this try and the next, which Peter Shillingford added after being set up by Michael Kane. Ross added a final try that was also converted.

Mariners I 27 Police I 11 Mariners notched their first victory of the year with a high-powered display against Police.

Full back Gavin Corcoran scored first after wing Rob Morgan put him through.

Keith Hodgkins missed the conversion but added a penalty shortly after.

Police replied with a flowing move in their back line which saw speedster Robin Hollinsid score. Greg Lunn added two penalties to give Police a three point lead at half-time.

However, Mariners refused to roll over and Morgan scored two quick tries through some fine individual work, and Hodgkins added the conversions.

Further Mariner pressure resulted in Dennis Faries adding a try after a pass from Hodgkins who added the conversion and a final penalty.

Police II 5 Renegades II 38 In Saturday's first encounter, Police could manage only seven players so Renegades loaned out four players to make it an 11-a-side game.

Renegades dominated behind a good performance from Mark Watlington who scored three tries and two conversions. Huw Williams scored a try and a conversion while Des Nash and Craig Attridge also scored tries.

Teachers II 17 Mariners II 29 Second Division leaders Teachers went down against a determined Mariners side who received tries from Andy Godwin (2), Nick Van de Weg (2) and Dave Sampson.

Terry Madeiros kicked two conversions.

Teachers replied with tries from Kevin Walsh and Derek Hurdle plus a try and conversion from Patrick McHugh.
