BFA rule Adams out of cup clash

FA Cup semi-final against Vasco at White Hill has backfired -- the goalkeeper is ineligible to play.

Adams flew home yesterday from college abroad only to hear that he is not eligible to play in the cup match because he has not made a single appearance this season for the club in the league.

BFA rules governing players' eligibility in the FA Cup stipulate that the player must have turned out in the league for his club, an issue that arose once before when PHC tried to bring in college students for important cup games during the late 1970s.

Yesterday it us understood Bermuda Football Association general secretary David Sabir made contact with North Village manager Maceo Dill to inform him of Adams' ineligibility. But when contacted, Dill said he was not in a position to comment on the matter while Sabir did not return a phone call.

Adams has long been regarded as the Island's top goalkeeper and his experience was seen as a key ingredient as Village try to end Vasco's dominance this season. The league champions have beaten Village twice in the league and again in the Dudley Eve competition.
