Big field highlights mile races

During the first race of the day, the 13-14 year-old boys, Maurice Pitt was first in a time of six minutes and 30 seconds. Steven Burchall was second in 6:53.

In the 13-15 girls, Caroline Davies was first in 7:12 and Jennifer Young second in 7:25.

In the second series of races, the 4-5 girls race, Alexis Armstrong was first with Fiona Nusum second and Renee Tucker third. Ray Raynor Jr. was first in the 4-5 boys race in a time of 1:29 while Jahmeco Watson was second in 1:30 and Michael Bean third in 1:30. The races were held over 400 metres. During the largest races of the day, the 6-7 boys and girls over 800 metres, Dennis Martin Jr. was first among the boys in 3:13 while Carlo Paynter was second in 3:14.

Kimberley Fisher, daughter of top Island runner Jennifer Fisher, was first among the 6-7 girls in a time of 3:05 while Brittany Pitt was second in 3:20 and Whitney Matthews third in 3:21.

Flora Duffy, who recently won her age group at the primary school girls cross-country championships, won the 8-9 girls in a time of 7:23. Matasha Simmons was second in 7:47 and Deneka Borden third in 7:51.

In the boys 8-9, Tyler Abbot was first in 7:06, Coyatito Smith second in 7:13 and Cody Lima third in 7:14.

During the final two races, the 10-12 boys and girls, Jayne Dillas continued to dominate her age group by running the mile course in 7:07. Shar-dae Whitter was second in 7:17.

Henry Talbot struck gold when he won the boys race in a time of 6:28. Ezra Arrarat Williams settled for second in 6:38. Jonathan Ball nipped Shane Morrissey to take third in 6:39.
