Canaries wrapped up the Bermuda Ladies Hockey Association A Division title with a 2-0 victory over bottom club Swifts on the weekend.
With just two games remaining, the Yellows are eight points clear of second-placed Cardinals who edged Bluebirds 1-0.
Despite Canaries and Swifts' contrasting positions in the table, the match was hard-fought with the first half remaining scoreless until just before the interval when Emma Garon picked up a rebound from the top left edge of the circle and fired inside the right hand post.
Sandra McDougall then cemented Canaries' win in the second half, shooting home from an angle following a short corner.
In the B Division, Swallows were knocked off the top for the first time this season as they were upset 1-0 by Orioles, allowing Bluebirds, 2-1 winners over Cardinals, to vault into first place.
Liz Adderley scored the Orioles goal which resulted in Swallows' third defeat of the season.
Bluebirds made the most of that loss, although they had to fight back with two goals in the second half after Cardinals' Emma Holmes netted from a short corner before the break. In the other B game, Canaries and Swifts drew 0-0.
MOTOCROSS SCR The second of three match races featuring American riders against the best of Bermuda's 125 riders took place on Sunday with Brandon Turlington of North Carolina picking up three wins against Aaron Pace, Robbie Smith and Justin Belboda.
In the first moto Turlington showed superb speed and quickly pulled into a big lead. Pace held on for second while Smith finished third. Pace got out front in the second moto but went down with 250 rider Ricardo Nottingham. Turlington once again blew past the local racers to claim the win while Smith was second and Belboda third.
The crowd cheered when Pace and Smith got out front in the last moto but their joy was cut short as Turlington turned up the heat to pass Nottingham, Smith and Pace and complete a clean sweep of victories.
Howard Paynter won the 125C class with Carlston Burgess second and Scott Constable and Ali Hatterley third and fourth.
Steven Panchaud triumphed in the 80cc class with two wins followed by Shaki Easton with one win and Jimmy Le Weaver in third. Craig Panchaud won the 80 Modified class. Racing continues this weekend with two more American riders competing, one a three-time 80cc US national champion. A female 125 rider is expected for the March 29 race.
