Colts, Trojans aim for top spot
matches will go ahead tomorrow and a fourth in midweek as Devonshire Colts and Somerset Trojans set their sights on the top spot.
The BFA were forced to switch matches because of the unavailability of two grounds, PHC Stadium and Devonshire Rec. and a shortage of officials.
Yesterday they made more switch, changing the PHC-Vasco match from Monday night to Tuesday night.
The Colts-Trojans clash at BAA Field is the top match as the second and third placed teams both go for the win which would lift them into first place.
Vasco, Colts and Somerset are all unbeaten after three games with Vasco having a maximum nine points and Colts and Somerset two points behind with two wins and a draw.
It has been a long climb back for Somerset who were in the Second Division for the first time last season. To leapfrog into the top spot, even briefly, would be a tremendous boost for the Trojans who are bidding to return to their glory days when winning trophies were such a common occurance that Somerset was known as `Silver City'.
Both Somerset and Colts have solid defensive record with both teams having conceded just one goal in three outings. Indications are this match with be close and low scoring with probably just one goal determining the outcome.
Winslow Williams, back in action after an absence, had had some good performances already in the Trojans goal while captain Andrew Rahman has held their defence together, alongwith Roger Brangman, Dion Woolridge and Shawn Riley.
Karl Roberts, formerly of Vasco, has appeared as a substitute in all three Trojans matches so far as he seeks to regain match fitness after missing the whole of last season.
Tomorrow's other two matches see Boulevard, fresh off their Martonmere Cup semi-final triumph, taking on Southampton Rangers at St. David's while Hotels entertain Dandy Town at Southampton Oval.
Boulevard will be hoping for more consistency in the league while Rangers will be happy just to pull off their first victory of the season to move off the bottom.
Hotels and Dandy Town have identical records in seventh and eighth places and though Town look stronger on paper, Hotels have experience in key areas and will no doubt be battling for the points. Former Town player Diallo Sharrieff will be looking for a solid performance in the heart of the Hotels defence.
Also coming up against their former team is Hotels strike pair Dennis Robinson and Joey Weeks.
The two Second Division matches scheduled for tomorrow will be at White Hill where Paget play Social Club at 1.00 and Somerset Eagles meet St. David's at 3.00.
