qualifying bid for the Atlanta Games, is turning her attention to the longer distances.

According to husband/coach Eddie, the 36-year-old mother of two established a Bermuda 5,000 metres track record on the weekend when she clocked 17 minutes, 48.34 seconds in winning the event at the British Columbia championships in Canada.

According to the Bermuda Track and Field Association's list of national records, no athlete has previously submitted a time for the women's 5,000 metres.

Fisher currently holds national records in the 800, 1500 and 10,000 metres.

She now plans to enter a series of top Masters meets (for over-35-year-olds) in which she will attempt to set more Bermuda records.

"We're going to run anything from 800 up to 5,000 metres and just see how many records she can break,'' said Eddie yesterday.

"We gave up on the Olympic qualifying, but she's still been running extremely well.'' Fisher said he had entered his wife in the Northwest Masters championships in Tacoma, Washington, and would follow that with appearances at the Canadian Masters championships in Vancouver, the US Masters championships in Spokane, Washington and the North American and Caribbean Masters championships in Eugene, Oregon.
