Half-marathon challenge for top trio
Eatherley, leave the island today for the IAAF World Half-Marathon Championships on Sunday in Brussels, Belgium.
And while the trio are not expected to battle the top runners in the field, there is a chance that the right conditions will allow for either Mike Watson's or Eatherley's local records to be broken.
Watson set Bermuda's half-marathon record in 1983 when he ran a time of 1:09:51 while Eatherley's time of 1:21:09 set in the United States in June this year has been accepted as the women's national mark.
"There is every chance, given good conditions that Kavin and Tracy can run 1:07, 1:08,'' said team manager Bob Oliver.
"It is a high quality field and the course is reasonably flat, so I would hope the Bermuda record can go in both the men's and women's. Kavin is in real good shape, as is Anna.
"Kavin is talking about the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics, so this would be a real confidence-builder.'' Smith's best time for the distance was in the May 24 Marathon Derby where he ran 1:11:27 to win while Wright recently clocked 1:10:58 time on a solo run to qualify for the CAC Track and Field Championships last month.
This championships will feature many of the top long distance runners from 60 countries, including the US, Kenya and Britain.
