Flame On, driven by owner Tom Matthews, easily won both his heats in the 1:25-1:30/4 time bar.
Abbe's Cassanova, driven by Francis DeSilva, creamed his opposition in the 1:14-1:16/4 bar. Daniel Greenslade's Ponder Babe was four seconds behind in second place. These two wins put Cassanova into the next time bar, the junior free-for-all.
Shamrock Tuxedo showed why he is considered one of the fastest ponies in the world by coming out of the fourth hole in the junior free-for-all like a bullet to beat Hoe Down Don, Little Dinger and Pleasant Surprise in both heats.
New trotter High Time Lindy won both her heats in the slowest time bar and Penny's Wildwood nipped Misty's Little Dream in their two 1:17-1:19/4 confrontations.
Track record-holder Nateway came within one and two-fifths of a second of his record in the senior free-for-all. He clocked 1:10 in the first heat and 1:09 in the second.
BOWLING BOW Defending champions Pro Staff remain in the lead in the Mixed Classic League after a 17-3 thrashing of Four Star Pizza.
Leading the Staffers was Bobbie Ingham who bowled the women's third high series of 560 and tied for the third game with a 204. Marie Frith poured on the sauce for Four Star Pizza with the women's second high series of 564 in a losing cause.
Us Until beat Amflites 11-9 as Leon Smith had the men's second high series of 573 and top game of 228 while team-mate Betty Lespere tied for the women's third game with a 204. Tops for the Amflites was Hank Corrado who bowled a 555 series.
Perfect Combination combined in an all-out effort for a 17-3 triumph over East End Asphalt as Eddie Bardgett led with the men's third series of 570. Carlos Estravit pushed the pavers on with a 546 series.
Get Togethers got it together and trounced Flagler Street Gang 13-7. Dudley Browne did not let up and walked away with the men's top series of 641 that included a second high game of 223 as well as of 212 and 206.
Close behind in support was Prudence Spriggs who tied for the women's second high series with her 564 and she also claimed the second game of 222. For the Gang, Rosie Bean put together a 554 series.
Barbara Smith led second-placed A&J Sportscards to a 17-3 win over bottom team Terrible Four, claiming the top series and game of 575 and 231.
SCHOOLS SPORT SOC The Bermuda Schools Sports Federation schedule kicks off today with the secondary schools' six-a-side soccer competition at Shelly Bay field, while the primary schools' swim meet takes place tomorrow at the BASA pool starting at 1 p.m.
There are nine teams participating in the soccer competition with schools divided into two leagues for Seniors (over 14) and Juniors (under 14).
Red League: St. George's Secondary, Sandys Secondary, Saltus Grammar, Northlands Secondary, Mount Saint Agnes.
Blue League: Whitney Institute, Warwick Secondary, Berkeley Institute, Warwick Academy.
SOFTBALL SOF The Commercial Softball League will hold its annual general meeting tonight at 5.30 p.m. at the training room of Butterfield & Steinhoff in the Vallis Building on Par-la-Ville Road.
The AGM will be followed by a general membership meeting addressing issues like registration and playing rules.
Representatives from all member teams are required to attend along with anyone wishing to enter new teams for the new season.
