Haulers take early tournament lead
were the high point team on the opening day of the Bermuda Anglers Club Annual International Light Tackle Tournament on Monday, accumulating 6,478.52 points.
Buddy Sowers was the high point angler for the day, hooking a 33-lb Yellowfin tuna on 8-lb test line. He also had two releases. The Haulers team were fishing aboard Craigin Curtis' Barong which was also the high point boat for the day.
But generally Monday was a slow day's fishing with the current going to windward in the morning. Conditions were better in the afternoon with many anglers able to tell a tale of a lost battle with large yellowfin on light tackle.
One that did not get away was a 37-lb specimen on 8-lb test caught by Kevin Winter which was the high point fish for the day.
Winter is a member of the Two Yanks and an Onion team which also includes John Duval and Tim Templeton. They were second on points for the day, accumulating a total of 4,557.81.
Fishing continued yesterday while the seven teams from Bermuda and the US will enjoy a rest day today.
