Ministry helps young athletes
Development, Sport and Recreation on Thursday when a total of $20,000 was handed to their respective sports' governing bodies to aid in their development.
Top junior cyclist Kris Hedges, tennis player Daniel Miller, equestrian Rayman Butterfield and gymnast Christina White were all given $4,000 while squash player Nicholas Kyme received $3,000 and hockey player Danielle Skinner $1,000.
For Hedges, the funds will be used for attendance at overseas camps as indicated in the application sent in by the Bermuda Bicycle Association, with the balance to go towards the purchase of equipment.
The $4,000 designated for Miller will go towards overseas training and competition while Butterfield will gain exposure and experience at overseas horse shows. White will attend technical training and summer camps with the balance to be used to assist with travel expenses for overseas meets.
The Bermuda Squash Racquets Association will use the money they received for Kyme to send him to overseas tournaments while Skinner will go to an elite training camp in Canada. He was also a recipient last year.
The presentations were made at the Department of Youth Development, Sport and Recreation's boardroom, with Sports Minister Dr. David Dyer and Director Anthony Roberts in attendance.
