Minors, Foggo win `all-Bermuda' clash

and Clay Smith enjoyed contrasting fortunes on Saturday when their Northumberland league clubs Benwell and Tynedale clashed in a 50-over encounter.

Minors and Foggo, both of Tynedale, were left smiling at the end of the fixture, which resulted in Tynedale winning easily by 83 runs.

Batting first, Tynedale were spurred to 228 for eight on the basis of a splendid half century by Minors, who scored exactly 50 before he was caught by Clay Smith. Foggo contributed three before he was bowled.

Set a reasonable target, Benwell quickly fell into trouble as Glenn Smith was snapped up behind the stumps by Minors on the second ball of the innings and Clay Smith soon followed him back to the pavilion, caught by Foggo after contributing just two.

Earlier in the week Benwell enjoyed a better result against Swelwell in a cup game, when they won by a whopping nine wickets.

They replied to their opponents' 114 for five with 115 for one that included an unbeaten 57 from Glenn Smith.

Clay Smith was forced onto the sidelines by the competition rule limiting clubs to just one foreign player.
