They sealed the 1999 Coronation Cup with third and second place finishes in the last two races in Granaway Deep.

The much-heralded battle for second place between Elizabeth and Contest was eventually won by Elizabeth , which finished on a season's total of 72 points, six-and-a-half behind Port Royal .

Contest , skippered by Andreas Lewin in place of regular captain Martin Mello who is off the Island, won Sunday's opening race for the Victory Cup, with Elizabeth second and Port Royal third. Victory placed fourth and Challenger sank.

That result made it mathematically impossible for anyone else to catch Port Royal and left Contest needing to put two boats between her and Elizabeth to claim second place.

In the second race for the Leon D.Fox Trophy, Port Royal took the lead, chased hard by Contest .

But Contest's challenge ended on the second downwind leg, when she was hit by a strong gust of wind and sank.

Elizabeth took over the chasing and caught Port Royal to win the race by a whisker. Challenger placed third and Victory retired.

In the match race for the Jubilee Cup, Elizabeth eventually saw off Victory , meaning the old trophy remains with the Royal Hamilton Amateur Dinghy Club.

David Hillier's Victory held a narrow lead for much of the race, but Smith's boat piled on the pressure and on the third leeward leg, Victory sank, leaving Elizabeth to complete the course and seal her triumph.
