Reggie Tucker claimed seven for 38 from just 8.4 overs as champions Somerset
Harris Bay field. Scores: Somerset Old Boys 297, Harris Bay Old Boys 144.
Despite losing Kenny Cann in the ninth over when the score was seven and number three batsman Tucker when the score was 22, Somerset overcame some tight early bowling from openers Dennis Musson and Sinclair Archibald as Aaron Sabir, the other opening batsman, and Roberts added 70 for the third wicket before Sabir departed for 34.
Roberts took over the senior role and paced the Somerset scoring with some attacking strokes, getting support from Milton Pringle who hit eight fours and two sixes in his knock of 54 while Ray Simons chipped in with 44 in the tail-end. He hit four sixes and two fours.
Vice-captain Gibby Wainwright was the top bowler for Harris Bay with three for 52 from eight overs while Maxwell Trott claimed two for 43 off 10 overs and Larry Smith two for 51. Dennis Musson, who gave up 24 runs in his last over, finished with one for 56 from 11 overs.
Brothers Gibby and Dennis Wainwright gave Harris Bay a good start to their run chase with 62 for the first wicket before the latter departed for 35, which included three sixes and three fours. Gibby was next out for 30 when the score was 75 as Reggie Tucker picked up his first wicket.
Before long, Harris Bay slumped to 89 for five and then 114 for nine before a last-wicket stand of 30 between Eugene Smith (23) and Maxwell Trott (10 not out) delayed the inevitable. Tucker claimed a wicket in each of his first four overs, two more in the seventh and another with the fourth delivery of his ninth over to end the match. Bernard Brangman supported with two for 29 from six overs and Kenny Cann, who also opened the bowling, claimed one for 30 from seven overs. Somerset used just four bowlers.
