Richie OK for testimonial

Indies Test skipper Richie Richardson of Antigua has agreed to come to Bermuda as guest player for the annual cricket testimonial at Lord's on September 23.

His decision to play in the match this year was welcomed yesterday by testimonial committee spokesman St. Clair (Brinky) Tucker who has worked hard to make up for the absence of a foreign-based player last year when no replacement could found for Richardson.

Richardson himself had been a replacement for Desmond Haynes, another former West Indies Test player. Haynes was involved in the wedding of Test bowler Malcolm Marshall who was to pass away shortly afterwards.

"Naturally we are delighted to have somebody of Richardson's stature come here to help us celebrate the event,'' said Tucker.

The honourees this year are Woodgate Simmons, Sinclair Andy Smith and Custerfield Crockwell. The main benefactor is Sidney (Cowboy) Hall, a former St. David's captain SWIM RECORDS TUMBLE SW Swim records tumble Records tumbled when more than 130 swimmers from Bermuda, Great Britain and North Carolina, USA, battled it out for honours at the Harbour Club Summer Inivitational Championships.
