Robin Hood put out Fire
After extra time Missed opportunities came back to haunt the Commercial League leaders when Jahr McCabe scored the winning goal with seven minutes left in the second half of extra-time of this FA Cup elimination round match at BAA Field last night.
Against the run of play, McCabe took a long, looping cross-field pass from Mike Stanhouse to break free, chipping the ball over charging Hood 'keeper Graeme Pitkethly. Fire Service's Troy Furbert and Hood's Alan Mooney each scored two goals in regulation time, Furbert's second coming in the final minute.
Ten minutes into extra-time, Robert Thomas, who along with Furbert gave the Hood defence fits all night, was grabbed from behind as he swooped in from the right flank, leading to a Fire Service penalty. Wendell Simmons fired a well-aimed spot kick but Pitkethly dived to his right to make a crucial save.
BAA Wanderers 7 Exiles 1 Not satisfied with merely beating Exiles, a couple of Wanderers team-mates turned on each other to provide a bizarre ending to their elimination round game.
Their team ahead 7-1, BAA's Frank Brewster charged Thomas Gribbon at the centre stripe and the two nearly came to blows with six minutes to play before being separated by team-mates.
Brewster had one of three Wanderer goals in the first half, Steve Irvine supplying the other two. Jeff Amaral made it 4-0 a minute into the restart before Clevlyn Crichlow got one back for Exiles. Five minutes later, Brian Cook scored for Wanderers before Darren Hope and substitute Chris Smith tallied in the 76th and 77th minutes.
Ireland Rangers 4 Lobster Pot 3 Troy Berkeley scored twice as Rangers withstood a late Lobster Pot rally to advance to the next round of the FA Cup.
Berkely struck after 55 and 61 minutes to put Rangers 3-1 in front. When Keith Bramer added another with the simplest of tap-ins after Simon Kilpatrick had made a complete hash of a near-post cross it seemed as though they had an unassailable lead.
But Tony Smith headed home on 83 minutes after an equally bad mistake by the Rangers keeper, who spilled Andy McCulloch's cross, before Chris Eaton shot home a loose ball.
The speedy Wendell Anderson had put Rangers ahead after 18 minutes and McCulloch had sent the sides in level at half-time, slotting home a penalty after Alan Turner had been upended.
Forties 2 St George's Allstars 2 (after extra time) Forties fought back from two goals down to earn a deserved replay in a game either side could have snatched in extra time at Devonshire Rec.
James Pace and Sinclair Smith put Allstars in front with goals three minutes either side of the interval. First, Pace showed his speed to get on the end of Smith's ball over the top to blast his side in front. Then Smith did well to head in powerfully at the near post.
But Forties showed their mettle with Brian Fubler replying after 60 minutes and, inspired from midfield by substitute Roy Fellows, equalised with just five minutes left through Cooley Robinson's off-balance volley from 12 yards.
