Samuels is Blazers hero

Boulevard picked up their first three points in more than six weeks as they ended a run of three successive Premier Division defeats with Jahmel Samuels' late goal at Devonshire Rec last night.

Samuels hooked substitute Lashun Dill's low corner powerfully past Hevonnie Brown from 12 yards with just two minutes remaining as Wolves' own indifferent league form continued.

If Samuels' winner was exquisitely taken, it was no more so than the strike that brought Boulevard level a minute before half time.

Vernon Phillips broke free of three defenders, advanced on Brown and blasted an unstoppable shot past the Wolves goalkeeper high into the net to equalise Mark Ray's opener.

Ray had capitalised on a mistake by Antoine Tuzo in the Boulevard goal to put his side ahead in the 16th minute.

Leroy Stevens tried to head the ball out for a corner as he was pressurised close to the byline by Ray. Tuzo tried to keep the ball in play but instead succeeded in presenting it back to the Wolves striker who simply side footed a volley into the vacant net.

It was Ray's fourth goal in two matches.

And he almost made it five, with an excellent volley from just outside the area which seemed destined for the net before Tuzo redeemed himself for his earlier error with a brilliant save at full stretch to his right.

Wolves were dominating at this stage, with Boulevard barely able to muster a decent attack on goal up the slope and against a strong swirling wind. Nakia Smith was at the centre of most of Wolves' good moves and he was unlucky not to score when a clever back heel was swept off the line by Robert Wilson, one of three Boulevard players guarding their goal-line, in the 40th minute. Just a minute earlier Smith had been handily placed just five yards out when the ball broke to him but he put his effort wide of the far post.

Shakia Crockwell tried a speculative overhead kick from the edge of the Wolves area which he did well to keep on target, but he sent a rasping shot beyond Brown's far post when he broke clear moments later.

Wolves were to rue their missed chances as Phillips notched the Boulevard reply and their next best chance in an unimpressive second half came five minutes into stoppage time as Smith nodded down to substitute Peter Sampson, who volleyed too high with the goal at his mercy.
