Snooker ace Charleton makes history

International Snooker League Amateur Championships in Toronto, Canada when he reached the B Division final.

Never before had the Island witnessed an individual earning a berth in the final and even though Charleton was beaten 3-0 by Ken Shea of Halifax it was yet a remarkable performance by the local in placing second.

Charleton, the team captain who plays regularly for Nationals, was in fine form throughout the tournament, also notching the division's high break, a superb 71.

His success -- and the showing put forth by other members Steven Roberts (Queen's Club) and Steve Dunleavy (Warwick) -- proved that Bermuda does possess much talent and can compete on the amateur level with the world's so called powers.

Final positions for Roberts and Dunleavy were unavailable, although neither placed among the top three, with Roberts having competed in A Division and Dunleavy in C Division.
