Sprint King Neil outguns Hopkins
Triathlon on Sunday at the US Naval Air Station in St. David's, finishing the .75-kilometre swim, 20-kilometre bike race and five-kilometre run in a blistering time of one hour and eight seconds.
Just 51 seconds behind and in second place was Greg Hopkins at 1:00:59 with Kevin Tucker nailing down third position in 1:03:09.
De Ste Croix finished the swim in 11:31 minutes, the cycle in 31:23 and the run in 17:14 to grab top honours on the day. Second overall finisher Hopkins was the first-place male in the age 30-39 category.
Julia Hawley was the first woman to cross the finish line, grabbing 14th place overall while clocking 1:09:15. She had solid times of 12:40 (swim), 35:41 (bike) and 20:54 (run).
Other male individual category winners were Trevor Hedges in the age 19-and-under division with a time of 1:09:57, Jeremy Ball in the age 40-49 category clocking in at 1:05:19 and Bob Oliver in the 50-and-over division.
Chris Goodwin fashioned a time of 1:24:54 to finish first in the 20-29 division while Mark Buffkin led all males 30-39 with his time of 1:16:24.
Karen Meyer clocked in at 1:11:00 to finish first overall in the women's 20-29 category, Debbie Butterfield was first woman in the 40-49 group to cross the finish line at 1:12:14 and Rita Gedney led all women aged 30-39 with a finish of 1:15:03.
Sue DeAngelo was timed in at 1:43:19 to lead all women in the 40-49 level.
