Swan aiming for top ten placing
of the season, the PEI Atlantic Classic from Thursday to Sunday at the Brudenell River Provincial Golf Course.
Bermuda professional Kim Swan will be among the field for the $100,000 tournament. Swan has failed to earn a cheque in four previous outings and needs a top 10 finish this week to retain his playing privileges next year on the Canadian tour.
Swan is using these events primarily as a preparation for the World Cup in November at Lake Nona, Florida but would dearly like to place well this week in Canada.
"Although my main goal is to be ready for the World Cup in Florida this November it would be great to start scoring lower,'' said Swan yesterday. "My rounds have been plagued with mental lapses and I've been making bogeys from positions which should produce comfortable pars and birdie oppportunities. My main focus now is on the mental side of the game and course management.
"My allround game is at a satisfactory level. Now I must lower my scores and bolster my confidence. Admittedly, years away from this level of competition has made a comback difficult. But it will just make success taste that much sweeter.'' The first round starts tomorrow and the field will be cut to the low 60 players after two rounds. Surviving that cut is no doubt Swan's first priority.
