Conyers, Dill and Pearman Grand Prix the best field of cyclists ever assembled in Bermuda.

The four-day event, beginning on May 8, is expected to draw more than 150 riders, including "a who's who of US cycling,'' Bermuda Bicycle Association president Greg Hopkins said yesterday.

Among them are Saturn, a professional team who brought two top women riders last year and have now lined up a men's group. Frank McCormack, one of the USA's most successful riders over the past few years, Brian Walton, a 1995 Pan Am Games gold medallist, and Bart Bowen, a former US road racing champion, have all signed up to challenge defending team champions Shaklee.

Having apparently underestimated the quality of racing in last year's event, an Irish team have reloaded and are bringing with them last year's national champion, Morgan Fox, and Tour of Ireland winner Michael Fitzgerald.

Select teams from Canada and Great Britain will also be on hand, plus a Bermuda national team making its debut.

CD&P are sponsoring the Grand Prix to the tune of $20,000, although race director Kip Herring is still searching for additional sponsors to help bring in other teams who have applied.

The event begins with races for all riders in Hamilton on May 8. The next day -- a Friday -- riders move to St. David's for a time trial and they stay there on Saturday for the 75-mile road race. A series of races then take place in Hamilton on the Sunday.
