Junior Golf Championships after firing a blistering final round yesterday at Belmont.

Trailing Thursday's leader Craig Brown of Bermuda by five strokes entering the day Kupeyan opened his shoulders, going even par over the par 70 course at Belmont to finish on 294 and beat Brown by two shots.

Brown faded into second place, as he could only manage a 77, but still held on to win the boys 18-12 group by four shots over another local, defending champion Chris Garland, who ended on 300 compared to Brown 296. Garland carded 72.

The girls overall title went to Sarah Thompson, completing a Canadian sweep.

Thompson, competing in the girls 15 and over group, weighed in with a final round of 79, earning her a four round total of 327. Second was Jan Dowling of Canada 340, with Bermuda's Lindsey Sims (343) third.

Bahamian Jameica Duncombe defended her title in the girls 14 and under bracket following a 87, which gave her a 337 score and a whopping 10 stroke edge over second place Meatrice Machado (347) of Venezuela. Bermudian Stephanie Lewis (422) was third.

Finishing in grand style was Aaron James of Bermuda, whose 76 assured him of glory in the boys 12 and under.

James combined scored of 229 gave him a commanding triumph by nine shots over Fraser Hunt (238). Further back was Eric West at 256.

Local Neil Fenton also finished well to take the boys 13-14 group ahead of Austin Chase and Chris Brough. Yesterday's 79 gave Fenton a score of 329, compared to 334 and 347 for Chase and Brough.

Ted Terceira won the novice section Stableford during a sudden death play-off with Jarryd Dillas, after both ended on 80 points.

Terceira claimed victory at the second play-off hole.

OVERALL WINNER -- Calvin Kupeyan of Canada, competing in the 15-17 age group, pipped Craig Brown for the overall title in the Atlantic International Junior Tournament.
