Wanderers fume after shock loss
Saturday when leaders BAA Wanderers crashed to a shock 2-1 defeat against mid-table Fire Service.
Wanderers were fuming over some decisions by referee Tracy Adams, including a ruled out header by Dean McIntyre in the first half which would have tied up the game after Theron Smith's 10th minute opener.
"I can't say the result was entirely a refereeing thing but there were several calls which, in our opinion, could have seen one or two players sent off,'' said Wanderers coach Stephen Smith.
"One of our guys came off with a big bruise on his neck from being wrestled.'' Wanderers equalised through McIntyre in the 74th minute only for Fire to reclaim the lead five minutes later through Troy Furbert as the BAA side suffered their second league loss.
And with second and third-placed Lobster Pot and Robin Hood both winning, the gap between the top three teams has now been cut to just one point.
Wanderers are joined on 21 points by Pot but retain top spot on goal difference. Pot beat Prison Officers 1-0 through a Chris Eaton goal in the 55th minute.
Defending champions Robin Hood moved to within a point of the leaders with their 5-1 win over Exiles. Dan Miller and Jar McCabe scored in the 32nd and 39th minutes as Hood led 2-0 at the half.
Colin McQueen added the third for Hood in the 61st minute before Craig Crichlow replied for Exiles in the 65th. Alex McLaughlin restored the three-goal lead in the 75th minute before substitute Colin Alexander closed things out with the fifth in the 90th.
MR Onions continued their climb away from the bottom of the table with a 3-0 win over PHC Raiders which lifted them into sixth place, ahead of Raiders.
Steven Ludgate broke the deadlock after 21 minutes and Bill Spencer netted penalties in the 85th and 89th minutes to make certain of victory.
Mariners scored a surprise 2-1 win over North Village Rams who dropped to fifth. Duarte DeFrias scored for Mariners in the 21st minute and Tony Montero added the second in the 45th to turn the match in Mariners' favour after Ross Lambe had put Rams in front after just 10 minutes.
Just a point also separates the top three teams in the B Division after Tuff Dogs and Devonshire All-Stars both closed in on idle leaders St. George's All-Stars.
Tuff Dogs edged Wolves Pack 4-3 with Joe Carolo netting twice and Nathan Browne and Paul Franco one each for the winners while Casey Burgess (2) and Sidney Lee replied for Wolves.
Devonshire All-Stars romped to a 5-1 win over Bermuda Pest Control as Leslie Mills scored twice. Jimmy Tweed, Jeff Richardson and Quincy Jones chipped in with a goal each.
St. George's have 19 points and Devonshire All-Stars and Tuff Dogs 18.
Devonshire Lions and Valley drew 1-1 in the other match in which no official referee showed. Jermaine Burt equalised for Lions in the second half after Valley took the lead in the opening half.
