Wilvert and Tucker win bowling event
offered by American Airlines for their fine performances in the American Airlines Bowling Spectacular which recently concluded at Warwick Lanes.
Wilbert's 232, 246 and 212 handicap games were sufficient for him to win his prize, earning him a 690 series that placed him one pin ahead of Gregory Simons who received a good cash prize for second. Mark Basden followed on 688, Steven Harvey 682, Traci Lambe 675 and Hank Rawlins and Reginald Saunders on 672.
High handicap games prizes were won by Basden with a 281 and Lynn Gilbert with a 263.
Delmont Tucker won his ticket for his performance in the scratch division where consistency paid off for him. Although he wasn't the top bowler in any of the three games, he had an impressive series of 604. He had games of 209, 202 and 193.
The other bowlers who had high games and won prizes were Traci Lambe 225, Kevin Swan 214 and Chris Leverock 236.
Steve Harvey took second place with a 598 and Swan third with 596.
In a separate non-qualifying tournament Hilton Hayward won top prize in the scratch division with a 580 series while Anthony Zuill led the handicap division with a 689 series.
PEARMAN LEADS PARTY GLF Pearman leads party Top Bermuda professional golfer Dwayne Pearman will lead a large group of players to the Azores next month to participate in the Verde golf International Pro-Am. Play is from October 6-12.
In addition to being a member of one of the nine four-man local teams in the Pro Am, Pearman will be the Island's sole representative in the Open at the Batalha Golf Course, an event which will see the winning pro take $14,000 for first place.
The competition, which involves players from the United States, Canada and England, is held twice a year with Bermuda having sent nine four-man teams in March, headed by professional Cornell Bean who was the sole representative in the Open. Among the other pros who were included in the pro-am teams were Keith Pearman and Keith Smith.
The Bermuda squad will leave home on October 5 and return on October 13.

JUNIOR GOLFERS HEADING OUT GLF Junior golfers heading out Five of Bermuda's top junior golfers head out for Toronto, Canada this weekend to compete in the Canadian Junior Golf Association Championships scheduled for the Royal Woodbine Golf Club next week.
Competing in the rigorous five-day event will be Chris Smith, Fraser Hunt, Jarryd Dillas, David Smith and Laura Robinson.
The start of play on Monday will see a total of 140 competitors commence two days of strokeplay in the morning, hoping to make the cut for the final stages of the tournament beginning on Wednesday with a matchplay format.
MANSELL, TAVARES REPREST BGA GLF Mansell, Tavares represent BGA Nick Mansell and Michael Tavares will be representing the BGA in the Simon Bolivar Cup in Venezuela on October 11-18.
After several competitive qualifying rounds they finished on top, their most recent round seeing Mansell leading with 152 points followed by Tavares on 154, Bill Pitt 155, Dave Purcell 155 and Ryan Mello 156.
