Wright chases Olympic dream
Bermudian sailor Brett Wright recently placed 14th at a regatta in Buzzard's Bay, Massachusetts, his fifth international competition.
Wright, 36, competed against the top 23 sailors from six nations in the Finn single-handed class.
He said conditions were extremely windy, but he managed to place second in his final race.
Wright is not participating in the pre-Olympic event next week in Savannah, Georgia but will join locals Megan Spurling and Elizabeth Walker for the CORK regatta in Kingston, Ontario.
Wright also said he is training for the Olympics.
"It's just a matter of the Bermuda Olympic Association noticing my achievements.'' SQUASH SQU The Bermuda Squash Racquets Association will send a junior team of eight players to England from July 20 to August 3.
The team of Nick Kyme, Sam Stevens, Michael Stout, James Stout, Daniele Bortoli, Keith Edmunds, Mark Goodwin and Kieran Bradshaw will play in eight matches and one tournament against clubs from England. They will be accompanied by manager Jane Parker.
The trip, which has been financed by the players who have spent the last few months arranging car washes and other events, is aimed to provide the youngsters with an intensive matchplay schedule against other juniors of similar age and ability.
GOLF GLF Bermudian junior golfer Michael Sims, who recently carded a one-under par 70 at The Future Masters Tournament in Alabama, continued his fine play after he fired an impressive even-par 72 on the tough Torrey Pines Golf Course at the Optimist Junior Worlds in San Diego on Tuesday.
Next best local score came from Robbie Spurling who carded a 76 and was followed by Craig Brown and David James with a 79 and 90 respectively.
Sims was one under par going into the 17th hole but made a disappointing bogey to set him back to even par.
The four youngsters are playing in the 15-17 age category which has a field of 240 golfers.
