bid for a place in next year's Youth World Cup in Egypt.

The squad, who warmed up for their challenge with games against Barbados, Glasgow Rangers and the US in the International Youth Tournament here in July, had been due to play the Cayman Islands last month until their opponents pulled out.

They were then drawn to play against the winners of St Vincent and Grenada who played out two 2-2 draws recently, with the former coming through on penalties.

Talk initially was that Bermuda would face St Vincent in two games on the Island later this month, but yesterday technical director Clyde Best was unable to confirm that.

"It should be finalised tomorrow,'' he said, when contacted by The Royal Gazette . "We're not sure whether there will be two games or one or where they will be held. We are talking about that at the moment.'' The winners of the Bermuda-St Vincent clash will then have to fly to Trinidad where they are likely to have to take part in a competition to decide which teams will make the World Cup proper.

Meanwhile, hopes that the Bermudian public would be treated to an international each month this season seem to have been scuppered.

Best would only confirm that negotiations were taking place with two sides to compete here. One fixture, planned for January, he described as "definite'' and another, planned for around Christmas, he rated as having a "pretty good'' chance of coming off.

He declined to name the teams involved but said they were both national sides.

In July it was revealed that all the associations in the CONCACAF region had been invited to send their teams to play on the Island as the Bermuda Football Association embarked on an ambitious plan to stage international football every month.

General secretary David Sabir was later encouraged by the responses he received from Central American nations while he was serving as a FIFA official at the CAC Games in Venezuela.
