BASKETBALL BAS In a closely contested Bermuda Basketball Association Summer League match that could be seen as a preview of the summer finals, Young Guns were denied the biggest win since their formation when they were forced into overtime before going down 69-74 to Twisters.
Young Guns led for three quarters, 16-15 after the first, 30-34 at the half and 42-38 going into the last quarter before Twisters pulled out the stops to turn the match around.
The score was deadlocked 60-60 at full-time.
Both offences, Twisters being methodical and efficient, and Young Guns up-tempo and fast on the break, sputtered in the third quarter. Twisters went on a 10-2 run early in the fourth to force their first lead while Young Guns fought back to tie it up.
Twisters went nine for 12 from the free throw line as both teams shot field goals well. However, it was the free throws which allowed Twisters to win in the end.
Leading scorers were Kit Mueller with 22 points for Twisters and Rocky Fox with 17 for Young Guns.
