Terry Ward plundered his second century against Pembroke United this season as Sandys Sports Club completed the double over their league title rivals with an emphatic 130-run victory at the Royal Naval Field on Sunday.

The victory in the day's only fixture pushed Sandys, who were sent in, to within one and a half points of leaders West Indian Association and the league title could well to be decided when the clubs meet for a third time next month.

Left-hander Ward followed up his unbeaten 108 last month with a majestic 106 not out, smashing six sixes and seven fours -- compared with 10 sixes and seven fours in his earlier century -- and reaching three figures in the 39th over of a game reduced to 40 overs a side because of rain.

Ward added 88 for the third wicket with left-hander David DeSilva, who hit one six and nine fours in his 53, and then put on 67 in an unbroken sixth-wicket partnership with Terence Corday as Sandys piled up an imposing 228 for five.

Corday's contribution, an unbeaten 24, came in boundaries -- two sixes and three fours.

Skipper Ian Coke produced the best bowling figures of two for 57 from eight overs while Michael Campbell, missing his new-ball partner David Gibbs, who had to work, picked up one wicket but went for 63 in 12 overs.

Pembroke, who were beaten by three wickets in last month's first fixture at the Royal Naval Field, lost key batsmen Mike Young, Coke and Campbell cheaply, plunging to 34 for five before finally being dismissed for 98 in 34 overs -- their second successive defeat following a 26-run defeat against Forties.

"Our batting performance was deplorable,'' said team spokesman Glen Barrett.

"It wasn't a good day for us. We need to get back to basics and put in some hard training.'' Ray DeSilva, who emerged with the best figures of three for 23 from nine overs, had Young caught by skipper Terry Corday -- deputising behind the stumps for his brother Michael -- for three and bowled Coke first ball for a duck. Terence Corday, who claimed two for 27 from 10 overs, had Campbell caught for seven.

Norman Godwin topscored with 31 and Arthur Dublin made 25 but despite the rain which delayed the start and held up play for 10 minutes later there was no stopping Sandys who will be aiming to complete the double over Forties at the Royal Naval Field on Sunday.

Skipper Corday took off the wicketkeeping pads to claim two for 11 in three overs and Anthony Zuill also got among the wickets, picking up two for nine in six overs.

This Sunday's other league fixture sees West Indian Association take on Pembroke.
