Good days don't happen by chance, they happen by intent.

It's one of the messages in counsellor Saadia Bean's personal empowerment book, Live With All Your Heart.

Reader Angela Brangman said it changed her life outlook and her relationship with her 14-year-old son, Samuel.

“Every morning when I leave the house with my son, we have our special time on the way to school,” she said.

“We don't say, ‘I hope you have a great day', we talk about how we are each going to make it a great day.

“The biggest thing I have learned from the book and also Saadia's workshops, is to be intentional about my life.

“I am trying to teach my son that he controls his thoughts and he controls whether he has a great day.”

Mrs Bean has run the Family Intimacy Centre in Pembroke for 15 years. A client inspired her to write the book.

“Early last year I had a client who was having a lot of difficulty and was doing a lot of crying,” she said. “After we worked a little bit, in two sessions there was such a big shift in her attitude in a positive way.

“She came the next time and said, ‘I have to have something written'. I thought I could do something.”

Mrs Bean planned to write a book of spiritual devotions but ended up with a general work discussing basic life principals.

“The principals are guideposts that make life clearer, so we can live with intention and joy,” she said.

Better Covenant Christian Fellowship Pastor Jeanann Stovell said she was impressed to learn you could improve your life by controlling your thoughts.

“I found it very rewarding to read,” she said.

She recommends the book to others in her church who are going through difficulty.

Vance Lambert said the book opened a whole new way of thinking for him.

Verona Darrell said the book helped her to get through her daughter Kelee Darrell's battles with lupus and kidney failure.

“It has helped me to cope with that,” she said. “It has helped me deal with the challenges of her being ill and being in and out of doctors' offices.”

Mrs Bean will sign copies of her book between 11am and 5.30pm tomorrow, at the Bermuda National Library on Queen Street. The book is sold on Reid Street, at Brown and Company and Down to Earth.
