US Ambassador to UK making brief visit this week
The US Ambassador to the United Kingdom will make his first official visit to Bermuda this week in advance of the upcoming royal visit.
Warren Stephens, the US Ambassador to the Court of St James, is scheduled to arrive on the island tomorrow and depart on Friday.
During his brief visit, Mr Stephens will meet David Burt, the Premier, and Andrew Murdoch, the Governor, to discuss longstanding ties between the US, Britain and Bermuda, and issues of shared interest.
Mr Stephens is also expected to meet members of the business community to discuss the island’s economic relationship with the US, and visit cultural and historic locations across the island.
He said: “I am delighted to embark on my first trip to Bermuda as US ambassador. We collaborate with Bermuda on a range of issues including trade, security, aviation, science and technology, maritime operations, educational exchange and much more.
“My visit is also significant as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence and I look forward to experiencing historical sites that reflect our longtime connections.
“The United States is Bermuda’s closest neighbour and largest trading partner.
“Whether it is our Coast Guard helping Bermuda maritime authorities with search-and-rescue operations or our pre-clearance officers at the airport ensuring a safe travel experience for all US-bound passengers, our relationship has a significant impact.”
Mr Stephens was confirmed by Donald Trump, the US president, last April and is involved with King Charles III’s state visit to the US.
At the time of his nomination in December 2024, the BBC reported that Mr Stephens was the chief executive of Arkansas-based investment bank Stephens Inc and had donated millions to Mr Trump’s re-election campaign.
His sons, Miles and John Stephens, took over as co-chief executives in January 2025 upon the retirement of their father as president and CEO.
