BFA awards set for tomorrow

Cougars coach Brown has been nominated for the Coach of the Year award.

Devonshire Cougars are expected to sweep the board at tonight’s Bermuda Football Association’s (BFA) awards ceremony for the 2012-13 season at Police Club.

Cougars won the Premier Division title, FA Cup and Friendship Trophy last season, an achievement known as the Triple Crown, with their star striker Domico Coddington favourite for the much coveted MVP award.

Also included on the MVP shortlist are Robert Richardson (PHC), Jemeiko Jennings (North Village), Damon Ming (Dandy Town), Dennis Russell (Southampton Rangers), Stephen Gould (Flanagan’s Onions), Antwan Russell (Robin Hood) and Jarreau Hayward (St George’s). Rangers striker Russell will pick up the Premier Division’s top goalscorer award.

The other awards categories are: Young Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Coach of the Year, Fair Play Team Award, Referee of the Year and Young Referee of the Year.

Cougars boss Dennis Brown, the red-hot favourite for the coach’s award, lambasted the BFA recently for failing to hold last season’s prize-giving much sooner.

The BFA had originally set aside August 28 as the date for the ceremony, but it was postponed with no explanation, with Brown calling the delay “a slap in the face” for Cougars, who were the dominant team last term.

Other Cougars players up for awards tonight are defender Darius Cox, goalkeeper Kioshi Trott and Chae Brangman, who has been nominated for the young player award.

The First Division also have their own separate awards. Tonight’s ceremony starts at 6.30pm.
