Robert Bean, the PHC coach, believes the future is bright for his club after watching them thrash Dandy Town 4-1 in the PDL Festive Tournament final at the National Sports Centre yesterday.

Marco Warren gave PHC an early lead before Khamisi Lightbourne added a second on the half-hour mark.

Tre Manders threw Town a lifeline when he scored just before half-time, only for his side to concede a third when Warren struck again.

Ryan Hassel scored a fourth for PHC late on to complete an emphatic win.

“It was an excellent team performance; we played as a unit, as one,” Bean said.

“PHC are in a transitional period in terms of the youngsters coming through, but I think in the next few years you will see more of these players start filtering into the first team.

“We only fielded one over-age player and what we’re trying to do is build some confidence in the PDL players, so when they are ready for the first team it’s an easy transition for them.

“I feel proud of these boys — I told them not to win it for me, but to win it for themselves.”

Bean said his team showed greater cohesion than their opponents, who failed to match PHC’s “teamwork”.

He added: “Dandy Town have some excellent young players, but at times I think they were playing with more individual work than teamwork.

“I was surprised [by the scoreline], but it’s been a long tournament and tiredness kicks in. We were able to use 30-odd players, which really helped us.

“I give credit to Dandy Town, though. They fielded a very young team and played some good football as well.”
