Quality produce at low prices
the recent addition in floor space, according to manager of the St. John's Road grocery store, Mrs. Patricia Fisher. "We have a wider product range, the hours have been extended and we can accommodate more customers,'' she said.
"Inevitably, we'll do better now than in the past.'' Mrs. Fisher, who worked in the accounts department before becoming manager two years ago, said the changes in the store are drastic. "The store is now bright, airy and spacious -- it's no longer cramped. And customers find shopping much easier. "We're seeing many new faces since we built on the addition,'' noted Mrs. Fisher.
"First time shoppers are amazed because they didn't expect to see so much.
And regular customers are amazed because of the additional space.'' She added that products are comparable to other stores. And good quality for low prices is what the store is trying to achieve. "We offer our clientele so much more,'' said Mrs. Fisher. "Hot food is available throughout the day. And if people want something especially cooked, they just have to let us know in the morning and we'll have it ready by evening.'' Also, if you are short of time, the neighbourhood grocery store will do your shopping for you. "Fax or phone in orders and we'll have them ready to pick-up or we can deliver them to you,'' said Mrs. Fisher. She added that customers should give suggestions as to how employees can make the store better. "We're here for the customers and we'll do our best to get them what they want,'' she said. As manager of T.A.
Adderley & Sons Ltd., Mrs. Fisher markets and advertises products, sets the employee schedules, checks and sometimes orders stock, deals with incoming and outgoing merchandise, and supervises personnel. She also continues to work with accounts in the office. "I do a little bit of everything,'' she noted.
Owner of T.A. Adderley, Mr. Gareath Adderley also manages the store as well as Mr. Stanley Adderley who works at night. In addition, the store employs a butcher, a computer assistant and seven other staff members. "Everyone here does more than one job,'' said Mrs. Fisher. "The cashiers, for example, pack shelves and receive goods as they come in which is unusual for most grocery stores. "But it's great because it gives that personal touch to our shoppers.
We all help to run the store and please the customer. "We have a small work force,'' she said, adding that T.A. Adderley has not hired any more employees since the expansion. "And without the hard work of all the staff, we wouldn't have achieved what we have. "It's not a nine to five job,'' she added. "We work until it all gets done. It's a team effort.''
