Health Ministry advise on food recalls

The Ministry of Health has advised the public of certain food recalls and has listed two websites on which consumers can find out more about the products.

The first recalled product is Innovasion Cuisine Chicken Fried Rice (18oz size pkg) with Best Buy dates ranging from April 29, 2016 to May 1, 2016.

“This was distributed to various local retailers and any unsold product has been returned by them,” said a Ministry statement. “However, many of the products were sold to consumers who may still have these in their freezers.

“The recall stems from vegetable ingredients which are the subject of a Listeria recall.”

“The second recall is from Hostess Brands, LLC which is voluntarily recalling 710,000 cases of select snack cakes and doughnuts as a direct result of the recent recall by their supplier, Grain Craft, of certain lots of its flour for undeclared peanut residue,” added the statement.

“The products subject to the recall were produced using the Grain Craft flour that has now been recalled and, as a result, these products may contain low levels of undeclared peanut residue.”

The Department of Health said it was aware of two types of Hostess products which were distributed locally — Brand Raspberry Zingers and Snack Chocolate Ding Dongs.

These were sold frozen in multipacks/cases, but are often broken down by the retailers, said the Ministry.

Consumers with severe peanut allergies should avoid these products and check the full Hostess recall in case other affected products might have been similarly imported.

“Recalled foods found with matching identification and dates should be disposed of or returned to the retailer for disposal,” concluded the statement.
